Store and warehouse inventory was reconciled once nightly, leaving online shoppers ordering products that were already out of stock and store staff working from data up to 18 hours stale.
Squadron built a Kafka-based event streaming backbone ingesting POS and warehouse events in real time, landing into a Databricks lakehouse with sub-minute freshness, and serving inventory state through a low-latency API layer used by both the e-commerce site and in-store systems.
Inventory data latency dropped from 18 hours to under 60 seconds. Online stockout-driven cancellations fell 34% in the first two quarters post-launch, and the client extended the platform to two additional business units.
